The Affiliate vs. The Super Affiliate
There are two players in the affiliate world, the affiliate and the super affiliate. The affiliate often struggles and wonders why they're not seeing results and the super affiliate surpasses them and generates income month after month. But what sets them apart? Why does one succeed where the other one fails? Often the two could join the same program, yet only one of them makes it.
The affiliate will join a program, stick a text link or a banner on their web site and think that their job is done. They sit by and watch their stats and see few or no sales and they get frustrated. Eventually they think there's nothing to be made and they drop the program and set out to look for the next program to join. Only they get the same results each time. Some affiliates join several programs at one time thinking that if they stick up links to every program they've joined then that's the only way they can make any money. This is simply not the correct way to go about it either.
Enter the super affiliate.
A super affiliate knows how to play the game. Not only will the super affiliate try and test all of the tools that the affiliate program offers, they will implement their own tactics for promotion. They don't immediately send traffic away from their site praying someone might buy something, they keep the traffic on their site and try to offer the visitor some reason why they should click through and buy something. This is known as a "presell".
The key advantage is that many super affiliates pick products in their area of knowledge. They pick products that are closely related to their web site content and that would be of considerable interest to the visitor. Super affiliates know what they're promoting and can offer extra incentives to the visitor to entice them into buying from the merchant in which they are affiliated. They can offer a few personal comments or write a complete review about the merchant, it's product and how the visitor would benefit from their pending purchase.
If 10 people walked up to you on the street and the first 9 told you to visit XYZ Store, and the 10th one not only told you to visit XYZ Store but proceeded to tell you what the store had to offer and why you might want to go there, which one would you more than likely pay attention to? The same principle relates to affiliate marketing online.
So in the end, are you going to be an affiliate or a super affiliate?
